Simply elegant 1950's day dress by James Galanos. This understated dress is a superb example of the designs of Galanos that endure as truly sophisticated daywear. In present day, this could absolutely carry into cocktail hour! The careful cutwork, seaming, and gathers are just not something you see today. The elegant boat neckline, rounded shoulders, and wide half-length sleeves complement the gathered waist and full skirt beautifully. The dress is constructed from a medium weight silk blend with a rich, fine texture. The matte silk lets the black silk satin waist binding stand out. The careful gathers of the skirt at the waist give the illusion of a cinched waist belt, however, the waist tie at the back is purely ornamental. Fully lined in black silk. 1950's Talon metal zip closure down the back.
The dress has the 2nd GALANOS label placing this between 1954-1963.
Overall great to excellent condition commensurate with age.
