Archival runway skirt from Rei Kawakubo's Spring 2002 collection for Comme des Garçons. A childlike innocence exudes from the playful layered ruffles and buckle hardware. The base skirt is composed of a lightweight cream wool and nylon gabardine with a pleated backside that wraps around to the un-pleated front. The layer that wraps to the front is designed with a gently fraying raw hem. The upper portion of the front of the skirt features a white cotton twill with tiers of draped ruffled layers in white and cream poplin, thin flannel, and batiste. The waist of the skirt can be slightly adjusted and cinched in with the chrome buckle belts on either side, although they are mostly ornamental. The skirt shown in the runway photo is a similar iteration with either an additional long inner-skirt layer, possibly a separate that has been styled with the skirt.
Overall great condition with a few imperfections to note. There is a teeny yellow spot on the pleated backside of the skirt as shown in the photos.
Labelled a Medium, would fit a Large as well. Slightly adjustable.
