A remarkable 1920's beaded Art Deco era flapper dress that feels like it leaped out of a fashion plate. The romantic motif is gripping in it's intricate detail with varied use of glass bugle and seed beads in both white and clear. Slinky and straight sleeveless shift silhouette with a scooped, wide-set neckline. The scalloped hemline leans into the organic shapes of this spectacular dress. The dress itself is a soft, warm-leaning charcoal black silk satin finished with hand-rolled hems. The undertone of this soft black leans brown or warm rather than blue and cool as revealed more clearly on the matte reverse. Unlined, no closures, pull-on style. A museum worthy gem that sits at the intersection fashion and art history.
Very good condition commensurate with 100+ year age. The beadwork has been wonderfully preserved with minimal bead loss. Few beads are missing upon close inspection not affecting the motif. Small amount of pin holes and a teeny hole near the hem on the backside as shown in the photos. Very faint natural discoloration at the armpits.
