An absolutely mesmerizing 1920's silk dress with an intriguing and dizzying beaded geometric motif. These Art Deco era beaded dresses are truly art to wear, and the Op Art adjacent design of this dress feels ahead of its era. The dress itself is composed of an inky black silk satin with a rich weight and texture. The bodice of the dress is adorned with a maze-like geometric design of hand-stitched clear glass seed beads. The straight silhouette is broken up with a self-fabric beaded panel sewn in place at the drop-waist. High notched neckline and a wide-set sleeveless shape.
Overall very good condition commensurate with 100 year age. There are two teeny holes to note near the left side waist of the dress. There a few scattered points of bead loss shown in the photos. The liquid satin-silk is in great condition.
The dress appears to have been taken in at one point in time as there is excess beaded fabric at the seams from above the drop-waist and throughout the bodice at the side seams. Those extra beads provided can give a wonderful sense of security! The added seam allowance from this alteration measures 2.25 inches on either side meaning you could add 4.5 inches to the bodice if desired.
Best fits a modern US 10, 12, or Large.
