We don't use the word iconic lightly, but this coveted and well documented archival Vivienne Westwood Autumn 1990 Portrait Collection corset is one of 1990's fashion's most iconic moments. This holy grail piece features a center panel printed with the French 18th Century painting Daphnis and Chloe, François Boucher, 1743. Always a history buff and a punk first and foremost, the Westwood's choice of art was a hidden symbol itself as the painting caused quite a stir in it's day. The vibrant and romantic Rococo painting beautiful contrasts the ultra-modern stretchy gold lycra of the end of the millennium. The corset emulates the shape of an 18th Century corset, however, Westwood's subversive design places this traditional undergarment in the spotlight as symbol of female liberation.
Constructed with flexible weft boning throughout the bodice and a zipper at the back. Unlined. Very gentle stretch.
Good condition. Gentle signs of wear commensurate with age. The minor snags are shown in the last photos, including #11, which shows #10 from the reverse.
Labelled a UK 12. Fits like a modern US 2 or 4.
