A holy grail piece plucked straight from a late 1960's Red Carpet by the sensational Gaby of España. The pictures don't do this spectacular gown justice! This couture creation is by Gaby Young-Mackinnon of Gaby of España; a model-turned-designer recognized for her dazzling creations with workmanship on par with that of 1960's Balenciaga or Givenchy. If you want the full deep-dive, we encourage you to read this fantastic piece documenting Gaby's journey from Dior-Muse to couture designer.
Over the top glitz and glamour in a quintessential late 1960's silhouette. The cut of this gown really takes the whole fully-rhinestoned-bit to the next level. The silhouette consists of a deep-scoop neckline at the bust and back, an empire waist, wide bell sleeves, and a straight skirt that drops from the high waist band. From Jane Birkin to Empress Josephine, the empire waistline has maintained as one of history's most enduring and romantic silhouettes.
The exterior gown is constructed of a fine black net lace with the beaded embellishments sewn onto the lace in a lattice formation. The faceted crystal beads are clear in a margarita shape with a mirrored finish at the back and vary between 8mm and 6mm in thoughtful segments. The empire waist is punctuated with a plush black velvet ribbon adorned with a row of black seed beads atop the waist.
The body of the gown is lined in a luxurious black silk and satin silk with enclosed seams. The hem of the black silk inner-dress falls about 9 inches above the hem of the embellished exterior gown, and the final 9 inches of the exterior crystal layer are supplemented with black glass seed beads filling the spaces between the lattice-sewn crystals. Incredible couture craftsmanship and ingenuity! The dramatic sleeves are mostly unlined for a sultry bit of skin with the cuff portion lined and adorned with the black seed beads to match the hem. The inner-gown closes with a zipper and the exterior closes with snaps down the center back.
Great condition commensurate with age. A few beads discretely missing throughout the entirety of the densely beaded gown.
