Vivienne Westwood 'Portrait' F/W 1990 Black Velvet Gold Boulle Foil Midi Dress
A Vivienne Westwood dress so fabulous, that the Dame herself wore one when meeting with Lady Diana! One of her most coveted collections, 'The Portrait' pays homage to the decadence of the 18th century. The swirling acanthus leaves were designed by André-Charles Boulle, cabinet maker to King Louis XIV. The gold foil design was found on the back of a 1713 mirror that once belonged to the Duchess de Berry. Extensively documented, truly a fabulous addition to any collectors archive.
The dress is a wonderful stretch velvet in a true black. Gold shimmers wonderfully. As with all pieces of this collection, gold foil does stretch and crack- an added charm to the livable nature of this collection. Excellent condition. Has ample stretch.
