Bonnie Cashin for Sills Late 1950's Ecru Leather Coat with Plaid Wool Lining

This sleek leather trench was designed by the brilliant American sportswear designer Bonnie Cashin during her time at Sills. Cashin's designs are often associated with her mid to late 1960's designs that fit perfectly into the Swinging Sixties era, but Cashin was ahead of her time. This design dates to the late 1950's when her transition from Hollywood costuming into Ready-To-Wear was in full swing. Her designs were in numerous fashion magazines by this point such as Vogue, Glamour, GQ, and Mademoiselle to name a few. Cashin's designs transcended the city vs suburb divide in a way that felt accessibly chic while maintaining a practical, down-to-earth essence. A woman designing for women!

Supple and sturdy leather in a creamy grey shade of Ecru that is beautifully complemented by charcoal black and cream windowpane plaid wool. The wool is of the quality wool producer, Forstmann. This leather panels of this swanky coat has been thoughtfully constructed in a way that peaked in the midcentury era of design. Covered buttons at the sides of the low waist secure the hidden pockets. The warm wool interior stands out with the large shawl collar in addition to the optional cuffs. This coat contains the Bonnie Cashin for Sills label as well as the Joseph Magnin boutique label and the Forstmann wool label. No closures down the front.

Very good vintage condition. Gentle signs of wear throughout the garment. The quality leather has a slight age-worn patina at points of stress. Faint scattered surface discoloration throughout.
