Designed by Rosella Jardini for Moschino Cheap and Chic Fall/Winter 2001 collection. This dress is documented on the runway and similar iterations are documented in Vogue Italia. Classic tie waist and neck apron over a black mesh midi dress with a mock turtle neck. Attached white ribbed fabric apron, ties at neck and waist and features ruffled edges. Embroidered in black thread across the bust of the apron reads the "MAID IN ITALY" double entendre above a red heart. Unworn with the original paper hang tag. Minor discoloration on apron and hemline. 100% rayon. Back zip closure.
A duplicate of this dress is in the possession of The Met's Costume Institute. From the website of The Met "(...)Jardini worked closely alongside Franco Moschino throughout his lifetime and she seamlessly perpetuated his legacy. This ensemble employs several Moschino leitmotifs: the use of parody and archetype; incorporation of trompe l’oeil design details with the sewn-in-one apron; and perhaps most significantly the employment of double entendre".
