Dark and romantic 1980's Chantilly lace evening gown by James Galanos. This gorgeous gown wonderfully captures the undertone of Victorian nostalgia that often permeated the era. The attached inner slip dress is composed of a delicate semi-sheer black silk chiffon with Chantilly lace overlay. The straps of the slip are flesh-toned as to not interrupt the beautiful raglan seamwork that draws the attention to the elegantly high neckline. The billowing bishop sleeves gather at the cuff with an elasticized band. The sleeves provide a bit of modesty with the semi-sheer single layer of lace. A scalloped tier of lace sits at the waistline. The skirt of the gown consists of an outer layer of lace and an inner layer of lace backed with silk chiffon. One zipper closure is hidden under the first layer of the skirt and an additional zipper is located at the mid back of the slit underneath a row of covered velvet button up to the back of the neck. Exquisitely constructed. A design so mystifying we could see it styled in a classic conservative style or in a romantic bohemian direction.
