Late 1960's paisley and gold lamé cocktail dress. This dress is believed to be an unlabelled Bellville Sassoon and the full length version has even appeared on display in an exhibit at the Fashion and Textile Museum in London. Sassoon was a favored designer of the royal family and the piece in the exhibit was donated by Lady Anne Glenconner.
Our dress has a higher hemline, and we could see Pattie Boyd skipping down Carnaby street in Swinging London in this gilded frock. This adorable dress appears to be inspired by the craze over Indian textiles that made it's way to high fashion circles of designers such as Dior, Oscar de la Renta, and Bellville Sassoon around 1968.
Pink, lavender purple, green, and ochre yellow paisley print with gold jacquard woven onto the paisley. Two rows of braided gold trim decorate the cuffs, collar, and waist. Gilded filigree globe buttons adorn the bodice to the waist. Hidden zip and hook closure down the back. Fully lined. Excellent vintage condition.
