Galanos S/S 1973 Couture Deco Printed Silk Twill Skirt Suit

Eternally chic 1970's does late 1930's skirt suit from James Galanos' Spring 1973 Couture collection. This brings to mind smoky visions of Faye Dunaway in Chinatown (1974). A luxurious silk twill brings this precise geometric deco motif to life. The slashed and dotted taupe print meets a soft black background to create a dizzying print throughout the two piece ensemble. The short and wide peaked lapels of the end of the '30s appear to be an inspiration for this exaggerated 1970's interpretation. Women are joining the workforce and looking sharp doing it! 

The jacket subtly nips at the waist and hits at the high hip. The skirt sits at the natural waist and falls around the knee with precise knife pleating. The deco motif has been thoughtfully aligned with the knife pleats Envelope pockets sit at either hip of the jacket as ornamentation with true pockets accessible from the side. The skirt is finished with a Petersham ribbon waist band, a hidden zip closure, and an attached black slip skirt. The jacket is backed with black silk. The buttons are the cherry on top! The shank buttons are a polished wood and horn with a domed inset. Couture finish. Documented, archival vintage from an important American designer.
