Miucci Prada for “The Great Gatsby!”

Friday, September 7th, 2012

If you haven’t already been swooning over The Great Gatsby trailer (we won’t ask what has you salivating more- Leo or the fabulous costuming!) here’s a little tidbit to make this upcoming film all the more enticing. Designer of the moment, Miuccia Prada, recently divulged to US Vogue that she reworked 40 dresses from the Prada and Miu Miu archives for the film!

The partnership comes to no surprise, Prada worked with director Baz Luhrmann on his 1996 film Romeo and Juliet, also starring the dashing DiCaprio. Luhrmann also directed a series of short films for the recent Prada and Schiaparelli exhibit at the Metropolitan Museum.

Prada was quoted as saying ” I usually try not to literally reference periods in my work, because that’s not the way I think, but when I worked on the costumes, I realized how many pieces would become very Twenties with a little intervention and another point of view.” We couldn’t agree more! While The Way We Wore has the most amazing selection of authentic 1920′s in the world, we often advise cost-conscious customers going to 1920′s-themed parties to simply rework their contemporary pieces in the flapper style. Any loose fitting tank dress can make the grade when paired with the right accessories and jewelry! Deliver a dose of Deco into your wardrobe on your next night out on the town! Look out for Gatsby July 2013!

Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations at the Met

Thursday, May 31st, 2012

Inspired by Miguel Covarrubias’ “Impossible Interviews” for Vanity Fair in the 1930s, the Met’s Spring 2012 Costume Institute exhibition, Schiaparelli and Prada: Impossible Conversations, explores the striking similarities between the two Italian designers, who are from different eras. Iconic looks are displayed along videos of simulated conversations between the two women, directed by Baz Luhrmann. The works on view are arranged by theme: Waist Up/Waist Down, Ugly Chic, Hard Chic, Naif Chic, The Classical Body, The Exotic Body and The Surreal Body.

The exhibition is on view through August 19, 2012 at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City.
