Marc Jacobs is Giving Us Gernreich

We’re absolutely in love with Marc Jacobs’ Spring 2013 RTW collection. Bold, graphic, and 100% now. Stark stripes, gradiated grids, mixed with so much sixties’ cool that we’ve forgotten all about the color-blocked opulence of seasons past and decided that “it’s black, it’s white” (cue Michael Jackson.) Maybe Marc was visited by a gilded fairy godfather, Rudi Gernreich. POW prints were definitely a calling card of the famed designer and we’re happy to see a return to bolder graphic prints, plus large scale patterns flatter a variety of body types! We’re willing to bet  this trend will gain widespread popularity, with no grey area.

Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs Exhibit Opens in Paris

Opened on March 9, 2012 and running through September 16, 2012 is the exhibition, Louis Vuitton Marc Jacobs, which tells the story of the two men and how they succeeded in taking an entire industry forward.

Housed at at Paris’s Musée des Arts Décoratifs, the exhibition is an analysis rather than a retrospective and the Vuitton/Jacobs parallel gives insight into the fashion industry during its pivotal periods.

In addition to vintage Vuitton trunks, there are modern era bags featuring collaborations with Takashi Murakami, Stephen Sprouse and Richard Prince.

Tropical Trends for the Season

Christian Dior's campaign

Not by coincidence as much as I believe divine plan tropical prints are everywhere this season.  Prada, Marc Jacobs and Dior all featured elements of a tropical doomsday. As much as people clamored for those looks right off the runway so did they come looking for their vintage counterparts here at the store. Our customers clamored for looks from the Miami of the 1930′s to the bright neon parrots and palm trees of the 1980′s.  Emphasis was on fun, lighthearted, whimsical looks to start off the summer season right.  It’s not too late if you haven’t got your look together yet.  We are here for you. Come on down!

CFDA Fashion Awards

On Monday night, the Council of Fashion Designers of America paid tribute to the winners and honorees of the 2010 CFDA Fashion Awards at Lincoln Center. Marc Jacobs was presented Womenswear Designer of the Year by Jessica Biel. Other winners included Alexis Bittar, Rag & Bone, Richard Chai, Jason Wu and Alexander Wang.

The Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to Michael Kors by Vogue’s Anna Wintour and Sarah Jessica Parker gave a Special Tribute Award to the late Alexander McQueen. Read more about the CFDA Awards here.
