We Can’t Get Over: Solange’s “Losing You”

Friday, October 12th, 2012

Solange’s new video for “Losing You” has quickly become a TWWW fav! Maybe its the catchy rhythm or the breezy vocals, but we’re in love! Which is odd to say, as it’s a break-up song, but it’s the happiest, dance-inducing break-up song we’ve ever heard! The video, styled by Ty Hunter (also the stylist to Solange’s big sis Beyoncé) showcased the singer’s signature Afro-cool point of view with separates and suiting from Opening Ceremony, J. Crew and Kenzo.

Also featured were the Les Sapeurs of the Society of Tastemakers and Elegant People- gentlemen of the Congo who’s fabulous style reference French dandies. Italian photographer Daniele Tamagni who documented the subculture in his book Gentlemen of Bacongo was on set for the video to offer guidance. Check out the video and tell us what you think!

Nicole Richie Designs Capsule Collection for Macy’s with Seventies’ Flair

Tuesday, September 4th, 2012

Beloved bohemian Nicole Richie pleased her fans and fashion followers when she announced that she would be designing a line for Macy’s. The full line has hit Macys.com and she did not disappoint! As expected, she remained true to her 1970′s aesthetic with her use of vibrant graphic prints and flowy fabrics. We were happy to see that she kept the entire spectrum of Macy’s customers in mind by including minimalist chic options reminiscent of the 1990′s. Somehow the sleek leather- sleeved tee is right at home alongside her printed chiffon maxi skirts.

The capsule collection is affordably priced, ranging from $49 to $149. Shop the 25-piece collection when it debuts September 12th!

Wednesday, July 18th, 2012

The 1960′s and 1970′s were a Golden Age in traveling. So it’s only natural that when Banana Republic was commissioned to redesign the uniforms for flight attendants they referenced vintage silhouettes. Pencil skirts, feminine blouses, and cardigans were all a part of the new in-flight wardrobe.

Looking for travel-friendly vintage? We recommend 1970′s dresses and jumpsuits in jersey, they’re super comfortable for long flights and wrinkle free! Stop by The Way We Wore boutique and shop our 1970′s dresses and separates- and leave the sweat pants and Uggs on the ground!

Iconic Designer: George Stravropoulos

Tuesday, January 17th, 2012

Born in Greece in 1920, where he worked as a couturier in Athens from 1949 to 1961, George Stravropoulos maintained a low key presence in the fashion world. His gowns were anything but, and from 1961 to 1990, he worked in New York doing couture and ready-to-wear. Widely considered a master of chiffon, he was best known for dresses and gowns that seemed to float in air and were influenced by the grace of classic Greek sculpture, according to the New York Times. He had fans in Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Elizabeth Taylor, Maria Callas, Barbra Streisand and Lady Bird Johnson.

Pictured above is a layered violet blue silk chiffon gown. The 2-ply layer of chiffon cascades from the front neckline around to the back, giving the gown a diaphanous feel. All seams clean finished or couture finished. Visit 1stdibs for more information and to view other gowns from Stravropoulos.
