What do you get when you mix pop royalty with one of the most highly anticipated collections of the year? A fabulous Stefani-Saint Laurent Paris collab! Although Slimane’s maiden collection was met with mixed reviews, no one can deny that this fierce blonde brings a youthful coolness to the 1970′s inspired separates.
Rumors have been swirling this week on whether or not the fashion industry’s resident “Ice Queen” will be offered ambassadorship to France or the UK. Why Wintour? Well, it’s not because she’s a front row fixture, her “Runway to Win” line of campaign goodies raised $40 million for the Obama campaign. Add another $500,000 from dinners and special events orchestrated by Wintour. What’s your take on this, Vintage Lovers?
A reporter for ABC, Jake Tapper, jokingly asked press secretary Jay Carney if the president has seen The Devil Wears Prada during a White House briefing this week. Carney laughed it off, but we can’t help but wonder!
On view through February 10, 2013 at the Phoenix Art Museum is Modern Spirit: Fashion of the 1920s, which features over a dozen items from The Way We Wore collection. Synonymous with flappers and freedom, the twenties were a transitional time for women and fashion and made bobbed hair, shorter hemlines, beaded slip dresses and drop waists all the rage. The exhibition features more than 40 ensembles from designers such as Chanel and Vionnet.
We first got a glimpse of this duo in last July’s issue of W which featured designers with their musical muses. If that wasn’t enough of a sign that a partnership were on the way, M.I.A’s look at last year’s Met ball (head to toe Versace baroque prints) was a pretty good clue, too! At an artist’s talk at MoMA, the controversial Sri Lanka-born rapper announced that she would be the next face of Versace. She didn’t elaborate much on what to expect from the collaboration. What would you like to see? Or who do you think would have been a better fit?
Burlesque bombshell Dita Von Teese launched her namesake clothing line last week inspired by some of her favorite vintage clothing. The line consists of five amazing pieces, including a trench coat with a full skirt (very Dior!) and the “Bon Bon dress,” a floral bias cut gown inspired by a 1930′s gown she purchased from us! The line ranges from size 2 through 16 and are priced between $575 and $995.

Rock Royalty and TWWW fav, Linda Ramone was photographed in her Los Angeles home by Harper’s Bazaar Magazine. Surrealist painter and feminist Frida Kahlo has reached icon status, owed equal parts to her artwork and her signature style. Strikingly different to the silhouette-skimming fashion of the 1930′s, Kahlo stunned in prairie skirts, peasant blouses, and ribbons. Starting November 22nd, a collection of the artist’s personal clothing will be exhibited in the Frieda Kahlo Museum in Mexico City. The exhibit, sponsored by VOGUE Mexico, will include her custom made blouses, a black velvet cape, skirts, the white corset worn in her self- portrait The Broken Column, as well as an earring gifted to her by Pablo Picasso worn in another self-portrait. It is also noted that the items still hold the scent of Kahlo’s perfume and cigarettes as well as paint stains. Wow!
